As we gallop towards the most exhilarating day in web3 and the anticipation for the 11th season of Photo Finish Live mounts, it’s time to rein in some essential insights on breeding. First lets begin with a little update:
Breeding Leaderboards can now be easily viewed for any preference:
While we’re at it, we’ve added Avg. Rarity for gen0 studs and we’re rendering out our own jockeys for those without Silks. Now the rarity of the pfp’s is an interesting datapoint to observe.
We’ve seen a lot of people asking about filly:colt ratio of progeny. Theoretically, a 50:50 is the answer. In reality, when random rolls are occurring nobody can decide when a binary goes left or right. And so on that note, we’ve added Progeny Gender Ratio. Boom.
Foalsday is intrinsically linked to the art of breeding, and in the spirit of this, we’ve put together comprehensive breeding leaderboards. These leaderboards aim to be a deep dive into the lineage and potential of each steed. Remember, a horse may have a record as spotless as a freshly groomed coat, but its progeny might not always follow in its hoofprints. In the end, some horses are simply natural-born breeders.
Leaderboards really are not enough. Enter the arena of Breeding Reports. For Exec Club members, with 20 or more PFPs, these reports are part of your stable essentials – available for free every season. At Holdinworth Equities, we wouldn’t dream of breeding without them. For those trotting outside the Exec Club, these insightful reports are yours for 4000 derby. Our advice? Use the breeding leaderboards as your initial guide to narrow down your choices, then let the breeding reports lead you to the winner’s circle with your final pick.
But don’t be fooled – these reports demand a jockey’s keen eye. They might look similar at a first glance, hence some may think they don’t really need them, but the devil is in the details.
Here’s an animated glimpse of one of our top studs against the top 20 studs in LTS:
A Nugget of Neigh-sdom: Those seemingly insignificant lines on the whiskers of the charts? They’re more telling than you might think. Break down the width of that report. Those little lines on the whiskers in the charts at 2px width account for approximately a 0.4% difference. In the world of horse racing, a whisker’s breadth can mean the difference between first place and also-ran. We’re talking about fractions of a second that separate the victors from the vanquished. It’s a game of minute margins, where even a 0.014% difference can determine the outcome of a race. So if you can distinguish a difference in those charts it is remarkably significant to say the least.
Yes, friends, breeding reports are your secret weapon. Dismiss them as ‘roughly the same’ at your own peril. Choosing a breed based on gut feeling rather than the clear differences these reports reveal is like betting on a long shot in the fog – risky at best. NFA. DYOR.
This last season for us was really just getting acquainted with the data to improve our reports. Shout out to MJ from https://www.mjinformatics.com/ for taking some time out of his holidays to assist with some things. If you really want to deep-dive into analytics you’d better put your big brain hat on because over there you will find data that will blow your mind.
